Laptop vs Desktop

Laptops are great if you need portability. They are not good for an "always on" condition as they get too hot, which is the laptops biggest enemy (heat). Also, you get much more power in a desktop than laptop for the same money. Laptops are also pretty much throwaways as the repair cost is out of sight. Laptops are also not as upgradeable as a desktop.

Desktops are therefore better for the long haul and also more cost effective (where portability is not a requirement).

A laptop to be used as a replacement for a desktop needs at least a 17" screen and pretty good specs for hard drive, processor, and memory, and will run you 1000-1500 dollars.
